Funwheel X7 Review: First Ride and Impressions

Funwheel X7 Review: First Ride and Impressions

Recently, I had the chance to take the Funwheel X7 out for its first ride on some local mountain bike trails around Košice. My friend Mark brought along his brand-new Funwheel X7, with only about 30 km on it, making it the perfect opportunity to put this board to the test.

Testing the Funwheel X7 on Trails

We rode on a mix of intermediate mountain bike trails, featuring everything from sharp turns to wet sections. The Funwheel X7 handled the terrain impressively well, offering a smooth yet powerful ride. Uphill climbs felt effortless, while downhill cruising was controlled and fun.

Funwheel X7 Performance and Battery Life

One of the first things I compared was the battery performance. After completing a trail, my stock Onewheel XR had 81% battery left, while the Funwheel X7 still had 85%. This efficiency, combined with the X7’s superior torque, made a huge difference—especially when stopping briefly on a steep incline. Unlike the XR, which requires bombing a hill without stopping, the Funwheel X7 could pause and continue climbing effortlessly.

Custom Tuning: Finding the Perfect Funwheel X7 Ride

A major highlight of the ride was testing different VESC tunes. The ability to fine-tune the ride made the Funwheel X7stand out. Here are some of the setups I tried:

  • VESCmann Allround Tune – This quickly became a favorite. The board felt incredibly nimble and carvy, making turns feel natural and fun.
  • Nico – Fast Flow – This tune made the nose drop slightly and provided insane acceleration. Unlike the XR, which dips and struggles when pushed hard, the X7 just keeps going.
  • Mission Clone Tune – A softer power delivery that still maintained an XR-like feel. Braking was stronger than expected, but overall, it felt smooth and stable.

Each tune transformed the ride, showing just how versatile the Funwheel X7 can be. Even as someone used to the XR, I quickly found myself loving the unique feel of the X7.

Is the Funwheel X7 Worth It?

After testing the Funwheel X7 across various terrains and tuning styles, I’m seriously impressed. The ability to adjust settings for different riding styles makes it an incredible alternative to the Onewheel XR. Whether tackling steep inclines, carving through technical trails, or simply cruising, the Funwheel X7 delivers a powerful and playful experience.
